Ocean Therapy Initiative
Association of Veteran Surfers (AVS) is a not for profit
organisation founded by veterans to help our defence and
veteran community through surfing, ocean therapy and
AVS have modelled their programs off the successful
American ocean therapy program, Wounded Warrior Project,
with the permission of their founder. The Wounded Warrior
Project is supported by the Jimmy Miller Foundation and
has been running for a number of years with great success.
AVS founders Matt Hoare and Kieran Scotchford have both
benefited from the healing power of the ocean, surfing in
particular, and have a goal to share those experiences with
our veteran community and their families.
Who can get involved?
Anyone that is serving/ex serving or affiliated to any Military
branch in Australia or abroad can participate or become a
AVS run numerous events across the Gold Coast and
Sunshine Coast. Please visit our Events page for more
information on how you and your family can participate
or become a member of AVS.
